Renewable energy and green jobs appear to be absent from the Territory Government’s business and investment agenda based on a survey of the Chief Minister’s flagship fortnightly ‘Business Territory’ e-newsletter, says Stuart Blanch, Coordinator, Environment Centre NT
Aboriginal women from communities targeted for radioactive waste transport and storage call for the government to repeal federal laws facilitating the NT dump and remove the nuclear waste management portfolio from Minister Martin Ferguson.
The Environment Centres are calling for the report to be made available this week, to inform public discussion around the proposal for BHP Billiton to transport large volumes of radioactive copper concentrate through the NT.
“The report shows trees are valuable carbon stores. We can now map where the carbon is, how much it’s worth, and how much is lost when they’re bulldozed and burnt up,” said Dr Stuart Blanch, Coordinator, Environment Centre NT.
